Earlier this year I made a commitment to myself to get my body moving and lose weight. I’m in my 50’s and was tired of being sick and tired. As the year went on, I hadn’t found the right program that peaked my interest so I was still a couch potato.

I had started another weight loss program so I wasn’t overeating any longer, but I wasn’t seeing the progress from that alone that I was looking for. I realized I needed to get into a workout routine that I really wanted to do and didn’t dread doing so that I stuck with it. Joining a big box gym hadn’t paid off for me in the past, there wasn’t any accountability in it so it was easy to make excuses not to go…thus I was still a couch potato.

My annual physical came up and my doctor said I had to do something to lose weight and drop my blood pressure. The same day, I received an email about Scorpion Fitness Center’s “My Fitness Journey” Challenge and it grabbed my attention! Not only did it have fitness classes that I had always wanted to do, KickFit and HIIT, but it offered InBody composition scans and nutrition advice. An added bonus was the reputation that Austin has as a great trainer, motivational coach, and all around great guy!

So I signed up for the 8 week Fitness Challenge…and I am so happy I did! I’ve lost some weight, dropped even more inches, and found a new strength in myself that I wouldn’t have thought was in me.

It really helps to know the composition of your body and tracking the progress in your weight loss with the InBody scans each week. I’ve gained muscle mass and I’ve lost body fat. I’m doing it the right way and I can see those results in detail each week vs. just a number on a scale.

The nutrition advice and discussions have helped me understand how to better balance my meals to include the right amount of protein/carbs/fat to truly fuel my body and my weight loss journey. We’ve all been on fad diets, lost a lot of weight to only gain it all back. This program helps you understand how to make the right choices to make it a lifestyle change and not a new fad diet. And it’s easy!

The fitness classes are tough, but they are fun so you easily forget how tough they are and you have a feeling of accomplishment when you finish! Since I’ve started, I can complete a 500m row in less time, I can do more pushups then I ever thought possible, and I can plank for over a minute! I still don’t like burpees…seriously who does…but I am excited to go to class and see the progress I am making each day. It is getting easier to get through the workouts and I’m finding I can RUN up a flight of stairs without having to catch my breath at the top!

Every day there is a new motivational quote on the board, the one that has stuck with me the most is “Losing weight is hard, being fat is hard, choose your hard.” I’ve chosen to lose weight and get healthy!

I am so happy with the results I am seeing and the fun that I’m having, that I’ve signed up for the next fitness challenge, “My Fitness Journey Holiday Edition: 60 Days of Fitness”.

I gain weight every holiday season, truthfully I start gaining as winter sets in and don’t stop until the snow does……..I am not going to be that person this year, I’m going to become the healthiest version of me with the help of Scorpion Fitness Center!
